Do you have a favorite chili recipe — a family favorite passed down from generations, or something you created yourself? The Rotary Club of Santa Clarita Valley is looking for chili cookers for its Charity Chili Cook-Off slated for October 7. The flavorful event will unfold from noon to 4 p.m. General admission tickets are priced at $40, while VIP tickets, offering early entry, a drink ticket, and delectable specialty hors d’oeuvres, are available at $75.Rotary President Scott Hoolahan and co-chair Steve Corn extend a warm invitation to all chili enthusiasts, urging them to whip up their treasured recipes for the 2023 edition. The vibrant gathering is set to take place at the SCV Senior Center (Bella Vida), nestled at 27180 Golden Valley Road.Chili aficionados preparing to join the cook-off should plan to check in by 11 a.m., equipped with tasting cups, spoons, napkins, and a table cover for their chili presentation. Attendees will delight in sampling the array of chili offerings and casting their votes for the top choices. As the competition unfolds, six coveted People’s Choice trophies and three distinguished Judges’ Choice trophies will find their deserving recipients. What initially debuted in 2012 as an intimate evening affair featuring ten aspiring chili chefs has since blossomed into a sensation, spotlighting the talents of over 40 chefs in the 2022 spectacle. The competition’s allure has even drawn participants from as far afield as Nebraska. In the previous year, the ranks of adult chefs were bolstered by the participation of local high school students. This marks the inaugural year of Rotary’s stewardship of the Charity Chili Cook-off, an event birthed in 2012 by Realtors Nicole Stinson and Steve Portaro. As the contest’s popularity and intensity escalated, the cook-off began demanding an increasing portion of the couple’s real estate commitments. Drawing from the triumphs of Rotary’s peach cobbler booth at the city’s Cowboy Festival and their annual Fourth of July pancake breakfasts, Nicole and Steve approached fellow club members in March with the proposal to transition the cook-off’s leadership to the club. Their proposition was warmly embraced by the club, marking a new chapter in the event’s evolution.Beyond the fresh venue, the Charity Chili Cook-off promises a melodic backdrop provided by “The Daze,” an exclusive VIP enclave, a panel of esteemed local celebrity judges, a curated selection of specialty beers and wines, and the excitement of both silent and live auctions. Aspiring chili chefs are encouraged to secure their spots promptly by registering at scvcharitychilicookoff.com, with only 40 openings available. The call for event sponsors is underway, offering an opportunity for prominent recognition before and during the event. Among the current roster of sponsors are esteemed names such as Santa Clarita Magazine, Loan Depot, Logix FCU, OPO Law Firm, KHTS, Reeves Complete Auto Center, Mosquito Joe’s, Afterburn Fitness, and Coins Plus. For inquiries and further details, reach out to Scott Hoolahan at (805) 902-7373, Steve Corn at (661) 478-1662, or visit [email protected].
